Myles

With heavy hearts all over Douglas County and the state of Oregon we are reminded every day of the big absence left by two amazing boys Ryder and Myles. These two bright boys loved life and were dedicated to their market animal projects, and everyone felt their impact on our community. Unfortunately, they were taken from us this year in separate accidents, which shocked our close-knit community.

Ryder loved the fair and his presence was known all week. He was champion in both confirmation with his previous steer and a champion in showmanship. His laughter was infectious, and it could fill any room. He had a special way with cattle and how he cared for his steers showed how kind-hearted he was. He paid attention to every little detail and had a strong passion for learning, which left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

On the other hand, Myles was a competitor and if given the chance would be one with his steer being just his first project. He was a dedicated presence in his youth organization, and he never wavered in his commitment. He fearlessly pursued his passions and had a warmth and inclusivity that drew people to him. His steer was not just a project to him; they were partners in a journey he was deeply dedicated to.

The brother of Ryder and the sister of Myles should have had the opportunity to show and auction their late brothers' steers at the county fair. The final journey of completing their siblings project has been taken from them to do so at the county fair. In the past this was a powerful and healing way to honor the boys' unwavering dedication to their projects. However, a recent ruling by the Douglas County Market Auction committe has stopped what has been done in the past for youth with tragedies.

Now, the community is organizing a private auction to remember Ryder and Myles and to honor their commitment to their steers. This event is not only a tribute to their passion but also a chance to challenge the unfair ruling that has prevented our grieving community from finding closure.

This grassroots effort aims to shed light on this important issue, touch the hearts of the Fair Board and Douglas County Market Auction, and inspire a change in the rules. We want to ensure that any other children who tragically lose their lives while involved in the youth livestock programs are also recognized.

Our main goal is to make sure that these projects are completed in the way they would have wanted and deserved. Bring the community together and bring some sense of closure to the siblings, families, friends, and anyone they touched in the livestock community.

We invite you to join us in this meaningful act of finishing these projects. Every bid, every tear, and every shared memory is a testament to Ryder and Myles' impact. It's also a call to action for our leaders to reconsider the rules that prevent us from honoring our lost children.

In their memory, we continue to live with passion, fearlessness, and compassion. We remember Ryder and Myles. We celebrate their lives. And we work together to ensure their legacies continue inspiring us all.
